The nucleus of NGC 1068 was observed at 4.6-4.8 micron for the purpose of detecting absorption feature by gaseous CO in the molecular torus against the nuclear continuum, since there is an argument that we see the nuclear continuum through the torus around 4 microns, although the torus must be quite opaque in the optical. Such a torus would produce detectable CO (v= 1 -0) feature. The observation was carried out with the cooled grating array spectrometer (CGAS) mounted on the IRTF 3-m telescope at Mauna Kea Observatory with a spectral resolution of about 1300. The expected feature, however, was not detected, which indicates that we do not see the nucleus through the torus even at 4.7 microns. An absorption-like feature was detected at 4.69 microns. This feature is most probably a solid CO absorption.
