The interaction of the solar wind with non-magnetic planets, such as Mars and Venus, involves their ionospheres. In our 3D multi-species model, the Martian ionosphere is assumed to consist of O2+, O+ and CO2+ ions, while the solar wind is represented by protons. Chemical reactions involving these ions such as photoionzation, charge exchange, and recombination are included in the model self-consistently. The effects of the crustal magnetic field and the oxygen and hydrogen corona on the interaction process are evaluted by using a spherical coordinate system which results in an altitude resolution of 10km within the ionospheric region.
