The regions surrounding the nucleus of 3C 120 and emitting in the continuum have been observed with electronographic plates. Three condensations in the jet detected by Wlerick et al. (1981) and one condensation 7 arcsec southeast of the nucleus are measured in U, B, V, and V-prime. The brightness, colors, and locations of these condensations are examined. The results suggest that the origin of the activity of 3C 120 is a merger of two galaxies.
