The well-studied X-ray binary Hercules X-1/HZ Her has a 1.7 day orbital period, a 1.24 second neutron star rotation period and a 35-day long X-ray cycle of high, low and short-high states. The cycle is caused by changing obscuration of the line-of-sight to the neutron star as the warped accretion disk precesses/rotates. Here we study the X-ray observations of Her X-1 over a period of more than 10 years taken with the All-Sky Monitor instrument of the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer. We determine turn-on times and cycle lengths. This study contains the longest time period yet for analysis of the 35-day cycle. We discuss the new properties of the 35-day cycle that are found, including distributions of turn-on times and cycle lengths.
