We report the precise (30") position of an X-ray source, probably 4U1416-62, as determined from an observation with the rotation modulation collimators of SAS-3. The data show variations of ∼30% on time scales of a few days and possibly 1-2 h. Comparison to the Uhuru flux indicates variability by a factor of ∼5. An estimate of the energy spectrum shows it to be rather flat in the 2-11 keV range. The source lies in the region of the gamma-ray source CG312-1.
