In the first 1.4 mm wavelength VLBI test observations, fringes have been
detected on the active nucleus of 3C 273 on a baseline from Owens Valley
Radio Observatory to Kitt Peak. The observations are consistent with a
source whose angular size is smaller than 0.5 mas.
