A balloon-borne telescope with a resolution of 1 deg of arc was used to observe diffuse galactic radiation at 2.4 microns from the central region of the Galaxy between 350 and 30 deg longitude. The observations clearly reveal the central bulge of the Galaxy, the very flat and narrow disk components, and a strong concentration of interstellar extinction toward the galactic plane in the central region. The 2.4-micron brightness at the galactic center is determined to be about 1.6 by 10 to the -9th power W/sq cm per sr. An asymmetry in 2.4-micron intensity is noted between 'positive and negative sides' of galactic longitude.
