The Swift/BAT hard X-ray transient monitor reports that the current outburst of the accreting transient pulsar 1A 0535+262 (Wilson-Hodge et al, ATel #2324) is a major outburst similar to the one the source underwent in May and June, 2004 (Tueller et al, ATel #504). The daily average source rate on 2009-Dec-06 (MJD 55171) in the 15-50 keV band is 0.69 ± 0.024 ct/s/cm2, corresponding to 3.1 times the flux from the Crab in the same band.
