Results of an analysis of total ozone concentrations at stations in northern Norway, northern Finland, and northwestern Soviet Union are reported. In contrast to the reported ozone depletion in Antarctica, the study shows no severe ozone depletion. The exceptionally high total ozone values observed at these stations in February 1989 are attributed to abnormally high stratospheric temperatures. A study of 24-yr meteorological sounding observations of the lower stratosphere from northern Finland indicates that the formation of polar stratospheric clouds above northern Scandinavia is possible.
