In this paper we present UBV observations of RS CVn-type eclipsing binaries carried out at Torino Astronomical Observatory, at Catania Astrophysical Observatory, and at Kitt Peak National Observatory in the years 1977-78 and 1978-79.
These two sets of observations show that remarkable changes have occurred in the outside eclipse lightcurve of the binaries.
VV Mon shows a significant increase in brightness around phase 0.25 with respect to the level observed in 1977-78. RU Cnc shows a bump around phase 0.75 completely absent during 1977-78. A retrograde shift of the maximum after the secondary minimum is apparent in CQ Aur.
A new epoch of CQ Aur primary minimum is determined: JD (Hel.) = 2443814.02 ± 0.03 and the following improved ephemeris is derived: Min1 (Hel.) = 2443814.02 ± 10d.62255 E. Limiting values for the geometric elements of CQ Aur are : κ = 0.22, rc = 0.28, rh = 0.06.
