Quark And Lepton Masses And Mixing, Supernovae

Scientific paper

We present a model of the 17-keV neutrino which naturally admits Mikheyev-Smirnov-Wolfenstein oscillations of νe and νμ in the Sun, while avoiding forbidden ντ-ν¯τ oscillations. Alternatively, the large mixing angle needed for vacuum oscillations to reduce the solar νe flux can be explained, in which case the νe mass might naturally be close to its laboratory limit. The model is consistent with all known laboratory, cosmological, and astrophysical constraints, including the supernova bound on Dirac neutrino masses.
