1650-35 V1281 Sco = Nova Scorpii 2007 No. 2 was discovered independently by Yuji Nakamura (Kameyama, Mie, Japan) on 2007 February 19.8593 UT at 9.3 on two unfiltered CCD images taken with a 135-mm camera lens, and by Hideo Nishimura (Miyawaki, Kakegawa, Japan) on 2007 February 20.8365 UT at 9.2 photographic (T-Max 400 film, Pentax 6x7 camera). Nothing was seen at this location to magnitude 12.0 on images taken February 14.8575 UT by Nakamura, or to 11.0 on films taken on February 15.8 UT by Nishimura. Spectroscopy (H. Naito and S. Narusawa, Nishi-Harima Astronomical Observatory, February 21.84 UT) suggests V1281 Sco is a classical nova; they also report the specrta suggest considerable inerstellar reddening. Data reported to the AAVSO may be found at www.aavso.org.
