The resonance absorption lamp method was first used on January 23, 1974 to measure upper atmosphere atomic oxygen concentration during a flight in northern Canada. Earlier data analysis difficulties have to a limited degree been resolved, leading to the 90-155 km range concentration profile presented. The results of atomic oxygen concentration measurements by three independent methods (aeronomical and mass spectrometry and resonance absorption) during the same flight are noted to be in good agreement when current aeronomical understanding is employed. Comparisons with other measurements indicate that the high degree of variability observed may be real.
