The recently discovered radio-quiet, infrared-loud quasar 13349+2438 has been detected at 1300 μm. This new spectral information strongly supports the idea that the FIR energy distribution originates from heated dust. The bulk of material is found to have a temperature Td of ≡22K which is typical for dust in the environment of compact H II regions. The total hydrogen mass derived from the emission at 1300 μm is ≡3.9×1010M_sun;. The average visual extinction of 5.2 mag produced by the observed dust is comparable to the extinction inferred from optical observations. The L/M ratio of ≡70 places the quasar and the underlying galaxy among the active systems, a fact which might explain the high luminosity of 2.7×1012L_sun; in terms of enhanced star formation.
