SIM's ability to measure absolute positions to roughly 10 micro-arcseconds at apparent V magnitudes down to 20th magnitude will begin several new fields of astrometry within extragalactic astronomy. The following extragalactic projects planned for the Space Interferometry Mission will be briefly discussed. 1) Proper motion measurements of nearby galaxies and numerical modeling to determine the dark matter component of galaxies and groups; 2) Measurements of the AGN to determine the fraction of light from jets vs. disks, search for binary black holes and determine the stability of their photocenters.
