Problems regarding the scaling and the decomposition of the equations are considered along with the finite amplitude expansion and the viscous and inviscid limits. The nonlinear problem is investigated by the methods of modified perturbation theory. An evaluation is made of the importance of considered zonal flows in the published numerical studies of kinematic alpha-effect dynamos. The viscous-inviscid transition region is discussed and questions concerning the generality of the equilibration mechanism are explored.
