An analogy between gravitation and electromagnetism in general relativity is revealed. The motion of a test particle of given mass along a geodesic is analyzed in a space-time of given metric and of signature plus 2. With the aid of transverse and parallel projection operators with respect to a stationary observer, the geodesic motion of the particle in a gravitational field with respect to the tangential vector is shown to be the same as if it were a charge in the presence of electric and magnetic fields. The analogy is only valid from instant to instant in that the equivalent charge is not, in general, constant along the geodesic. In a constant gravitational field the analogy is complete, since the tangential vector in that case is parallel to the time-like Killing vector.
