It is becoming clear that intermediate-mass black holes --- black holes with masses in the 100--10,000 M&sun; range --- may have played an important role in early galactic evolution, and may currently be playing an important role in stellar cluster evolution. Here, I briefly highlight emerging evidence for intermediate mass black holes, in a subset of the most luminous non-nuclear X-ray point sources in nearby normal galaxies.
