An investigation is conducted of the effects on the star distribution arising from the presence of a massive gas cloud embedded at the center of a star cluster. It is assumed that the cloud remains in equilibrium for the time-scales of interest. Such an equilibrium could be achieved if the amount of energy being liberated in the interior of the cloud by two mechanisms were sufficient to balance the energy being emitted away from the surface of the cloud. Alternatively, one may interpret the cloud as the central region of a rotating system with matter being supported by angular momentum. In the analysis a distinction is made between stars in orbits which are restricted to the cloud, the so-called 'confined' stars, and those 'unconfined' stars in orbits which extend beyond the radius of the cloud.
