The Millimeter Array (MMA) will image with 0."1 angular resolution the distribution of gas and dust in galaxies at redshifts of 5 or greater. With the same angular resolution the MMA will image the gas kinematics using redshifted lines of CO, CI, NII and CII. The MMA sensitivity will permit such observations to be made even in cosmologically distant 'normal' galaxies such as the Milky Way. Prospects for using the MMA to assess the gas mass, dust mass, kinematics, and chemical evolution of evolving galaxies as a function of redshift will be outlined.
