This proposal obtains the pre-SM3A baseline data, which will be compared to data gathered by an identical visit in a post-SM3A proposal {8526, visit 4}, to determine the possible effects of the SM3A activities on the FGS3 optical field angle distortions {OFAD} and relative scale can be quantified. The orient and pointing specified in this proposal are different from the classical FGS LTSTAB/Position Mode proposals. This was necessary to accomodate guide star availability in FGS1r since FGS2, which traditionally guided HST for the FGS3 LTSTABs, will not be available at the time visit 0852604 executes. FGS3 will observe aproximately 25 stars in Position Mode to determined their relative astrometry to about 1 mas. These data will be compared via plate overlay {without scale adjustment} to identical observations obtained after the SM3A activies. Any changes to the OFAD and/or relative plate scale exceeding 5 mas will be considered anomalous. In such case, the FGS group at STScI will bring the matter forward to STScI management with the possible advisory that further monitoring of the FGS3 calibrations might be in order.
