An analysis of long-term changes in cosmic ray intensities, as recorded by neutron monitors at the Deep River (1965-1977) and Huancayo (1955-1965), indicates that the monthly mean values may be considerably distorted due to the Forbush decrease effects. It is found that while the mean values show a wide hysteresis loop, the maximum values are characterized by a narrower loop and thereby imply reduced dimensions of a modulating region for galactic cosmic ray intensity.
