In a numerical computation model, a series of 80 test objects, uniformly spaced in mean anomaly, was allowed to move along a 9.5 arc of the pre-encounter orbit of Comet P/Oterma into the vicinity of Jupiter. The subsequent orbital evolution was computed for several decades or centuries, with emphasis on those objects retaining a moderate aphelion distance (down to 2.5 AU). This type is considered a potential candidate for further evolution, giving rise to orbits of the Encke, Apollo or Amor type. Results of the computation showed that after a Jovian encounter only a few test particles could remain in orbit of small aphelion distance for a long period of time, without reapproaching the planet: Otermas-2, -1, and -10. Moreover, the satellite capture of Oterma-15 was calculated to a duration of more than 100 years, on a highly inclined Jovicentric orbit (about 90 deg). It is thus considered that values of Delta M between 1.4 deg and 1.8 deg give the most favorable, although unstable, region for long-enduring satellite captures.
