The possible use of seismometers for all-weather, day and night meteorite impact detectors is examined. Consideration is given to the dynamics of meteorite impacts, the calculation of the impact energy of a meteorite, and the seismic energy and seismic signature of a meteorite impact. It is suggested that the use of seismometers may increase the detection of meteorites by about an order of magnitude.
