Research areas are discussed that show the inadequacy of a one-component dynamical description of galaxies. The construction of self-consistent stellar-dynamical equilibrium models of elliptical galaxies is addressed, taking the effects of the presence of dark matter into account. The morphology of normal spiral galaxies is examined, including the role of a cold gas component in the dynamics and evolution of galaxy disks.
