The various regions of the electromagnetic spectrum currently being used to determine the composition of the lunar surface remotely are reviewed. The advantages and disadvantages of using each region are pointed out, and limits are set on the kind and amount of information that can be obtained. It is concluded that it would be most useful to apply all of these techniques to the problem of remotely exploring the Moon because of the complementary nature of the data obtained.
