This contains the results of the analysis and the interpretation of
X-ray and infrared observations of magnetars, namely SGR 1806-20, 1RXS
J1708-4009, 1E 1048.1-5937 and XTE J1810-197. Furthermore, there is an
appendix on X-ray observations of low and high mass X-ray binaries,
namely GX 1+4 and EXO 0531-6609.2 .
