The heat balance of the thermosphere at a developed quasi-steady stage of disturbance with considerable gas heating is studied on the basis of a self-consistent model. It is shown that the energy sink from the thermosphere in these conditions is almost fully determined by NO IR-radiation in the 5.3-micron V-R band. In the case of heating by a perpendicular electric field of 0.1 V/m, the volume density of the IR radiation can reach a value of 0.0001 erg/cu cm s, wshile the vertical energy flux can reach a value of 1000 erg/sq cm s. The NO IR-radiation is found to have a stabilizing effect on the thermospheric temperature.
