The purpose of the present paper is (1) to summarize the wave-particle events observed along the Voyager 2 outbound trajectory at Saturn and to show that their detection was the result of a favorably oriented IMF; (2) to illustrate with correlated ion and magnetic field data both the near and distant events and to discuss the evolution of their properties with increasing distance from Saturn; (3) to show the spectral and eigenfunction characteristics of the observed waves; and (4) to speculate on the mode of waves and possible excitation mechanisms, supported by an instability analysis. The final section summarizes the results and compares them to those obtained in the foreshock regions of other planets, particularly the earth.
