Gemini Observatory's Public Information and Outreach Office along with other observatories on Mauna Kea produced a newspaper "tabloid" or special edition supplement on astronomy, specifically related to IYA (see figures 1 and 2). In addition, we contracted with the local newspaper to have an IYA website on their webpage. In the first six months the website had over 840,000 hits with over 5,000 downloads of the Stars Over Mauna Kea publication! As a general astronomy supplement the concept has proven extremely successful.
