The dynamic evolution of a disk embedded in an oblate spheroidal galaxy is investigated by means of numerical simulations performed at NASA Ames, involving self-consistent fully three-dimensional integration of 100,000-body systems. A flat disk containing 1000 particles (of equal mass and with no random motion), with its center coincident with the center of the oblate spheroid and at an angle of 30, 60, or 90 deg to the spheroid equatorial plane is started in differential rotation. The results are presented graphically and discussed in detail. The galaxy center is found to shift so that the disk center orbits about it, in a complex motion with nutation, rotation, and precession; warping of the disk is also observed. The possible connections between these findings and observations of complex motions at the Galactic center are considered.
