Emission spectra of the A2Π-X2Σ+ system of MgH have been studied at high resolution and with high signal-to-noise ratio through the use of a Fourier transform spectrometer. On the basis of a rotational analysis of these data, frequencies are predicted for the lowest pure rotational transitions with an accuracy approaching ±30 MHz. Frequencies of the (1,0) vibration-rotation lines are calculated to an accuracy of ±0.002 cm-1. The excitation and observability of MgH in interstellar clouds are discussed.
