There is considerable controversy regarding the configuration, mass ratio, and evolutionary status of the early-type close binary system LY Aur (O9.5 III). The authors analyzed the six bandpass OAO 2 observations of Heap as well as the ground-based observations combined by Eaton. The system is found to be semidetached, with the cooler and less massive component filling its Roche lobe, while the hotter component is close to its Roche surface. The photometric mass ratio mcool/mhot has a value of 0.56. Absolute dimensions of the system have been calculated employing the photometric mass ratio. The observed radii are found to be a factor of 2 greater than the zero-age main sequence values for stars of corresponding masses.
