The linear growth of perturbations on the surface of a cylindrical jet in various parameters of astrophysical interest is studied. It is shown how perturbations modify a jet and the probable development as a function of time and physical conditions is discussed. Further, the physical conditions needed to produce the different morphology of sources are briefly discussed.
