The flare stars found in the Orion Nebula and the flare variables discovered in the solar vicinity have similar characteristics: late-type stars, rapid and irregular light variations, emission lines in their quiescent spectra, similar spectra to T-Tauri stars, and being population I objects. The only difference found up to now is their absolute magnitude, which may be due to observational selection. The flare variables in the solar vicinity have been found by accident or by the almost limited observation of late dMe stars.
