We report Hα imaging observations of the faint eastern limb of Tycho's supernova remnant (SN1572) using the Wide Field Planetary Camera-2 on the Hubble Space Telescope. Our data resolves the detailed structure of the fast, collisionless shock wave into a delicate structure of nearly edge-on filaments. We derive preshock conditions for these shocks using crosscuts perpendicular to the local shock fronts and an Hα emission model. We find a gradual increase of Hα intensity just ahead of the shock front, which we interpret as emission from the shock precursor. We discuss the properties of the precursor and the possibility of cosmic ray acceleration at this position.
