If galactic evolution fills the major part of the disk with material
opaque to blue light at some recent re shift z = zd, galaxy
number counts will show an excess at faint magnitudes (compared to
no-evolution models and magnitude-limited surveys will show more
galaxies at large redshifts than would otherwise be expected.
