What effect do cosmic rays have on the diffuse plasma in clusters of galaxies? This is a fundamental question that is difficult to predict analytically, since there are several mechanisms by which cosmic rays are injected into the intracluster medium with poorly-constrained CR acceleration efficiencies. In order to constrain the efficiency of one such mechanism, acceleration of cosmic rays at shocks in the intracluster medium, we perform a series of simulation using the Enzo AMR code that inject cosmic rays with varying efficiencies, and compare the resulting gamma-ray fluxes with recent limits provided by observations using the Fermi observatory. In addition, we compare gamma ray emission to other observables (most notably radio synchrotron emission).
