Type II plateau supernovae (SNe II-P) are the most common type of supernova and yet little is known of their near infrared (NIR) properties. Especially given the renewed interest in using the events as cosmological probes, we undertook a study with the robotic PAIRITEL project (http://pairitel.org) of nearby SNe II-P to characterize their NIR properties. We present photometry of several SNe II-P in the J, H, and Ks bands. This homogeneously observed and analyzed dataset represents a significant addition to the published literature on these supernovae. We show preliminary analysis of the NIR luminosity function, color evolution, and extinction properties of these common, but heretofore understudied, class.
