We present the low frequency radio continuum spectrum of the nucleus of NGC 253 at a spatial resolution reasonably well matched to the size of the nuclear starburst region. The nuclear spectrum shows a dramatic flattening going to low frequencies, with a spectral index of -0.17 between 1.5GHz and 0.33MHz. Possible physical mechanisms for this flattening are discussed, the most likely being free-free absorption by gas local to the starburst region. The implied emission measures are high (of order a few x10^5^(T/10^4^K)^3/2^pc/cm^6^). These data, along with numerous observations in other wavebands, suggest interstellar pressures in the nuclear starburst region of NGC 253 up to two orders of magnitude larger than typical interstellar pressures.
