Ro-vibrational absorption line measurements are a powerful diagnostic tool for interpreting radiation from star-formation regions. Due to the fact that these are absorption lines against a warm source, high effective spatial resolution is achieved. Together with high spectral resolution and a wide range of excitation, significant data on the source properties can be obtained. We present an analysis of ro-vibrational absorption line data of C2H2 toward the high-mass star-forming region NGC 7538IRS9. We find that the temperature and column density of the emitting region can be strongly constrained. We compare these results against chemical models to infer information about the source geometry and orientation, as well as the evolution of C2H2 in the region.
