We test current cosmological models by looking at the brightest cluster galaxy (BCG) within a galaxy cluster. Then, measuring its metric luminosity within the inner 10 h-1 kpc and comparing it to the logarithmic slope of the brightness profile, we test the Hoessel (1980) relationship. Previous work from Postman and Lauer (1995) has shown that BCGs can be used as standard candles to measure distance and reduce the cosmic scatter of Lm in a volume limited (z ≤ 0.05) sample. We extend this sample by using Hubble Space Telescope data of galaxies from z 0.5 - 1.0.
