Cosmological galaxy formation simulations indicate that the filamentary cold mode accretion is the most important channel of gas supply to galaxies.
I will present new results from high-resolution cosmological zoom-in simulations, where late time filamentary gas accretion is resolved into individual pressure confined clouds. I will discuss clouds formation mechanism and relate these clouds to the observed cold halo gas in the vicinity of galaxies. Such clouds are likely already detected both in neutral hydrogen observations of the local universe and as halo absorbers at intermediate redshift.
