The Indian Ocean Tsunami, on the 26^{th} December 2004, produced the largest set of data in the tsunami history. The same revolution produced by the Chile and Alaska earthquakes in the '60s, for normal modes and seismic effects in the ionosphere respectively, has been produced today for tsunami detection in the way of ionospheric sounding. Total electron content (TEC) perturbations have been observed in all Indian Ocean by GPS receivers [DasGupta et al., 2006, Liu et al. 2006a,b] and dual frequency altimeters Jason-1 and Topex/Poseidon [Artru et al., 2005b]. We have recently reproduced by accurate 3D modelling the observed perturbations in the overlying neutral and ionized atmosphere. The model was confirmed by altimeter TEC data. Here, we present in review the different observations in the light of modelling, to explain the inhomogeneous amplitudes observed by GPS receivers in relationship with magnetic field inclination and geometrical structure of tsunami wavefront.
