The multifunctional Planetary Weather Research and Forecasting (planetWRF) atmospheric model (an enhanced version of the WRF model originally written by NCAR) has been employed in its large eddy simulation (LES) mode to simulate the boundary layer of the Martian atmosphere. Sensitivity to domain resolution and extent is examined. Comparison to Mars Exploration Rover and other lander data (i.e., Viking Landers, Pathfinder) will also be presented. We have specifically focused on the three dimensional structure of convection and the dominant length scales for heat and momentum transport.
