A detailed study of 324 radio-quiet, X-ray selected, type 1 AGN Spectral Energy Distribution (SED) shapes from 0.1--1μ m from the deep/wide COSMOS Survey is presented. We constructed (near-IR slope-Optical slope) diagrams as a function of luminosity, redshift and Eddington ratio. These allow straightforward comparison of the SED shapes with the much utilized Elvis et al., (1994, E94) template, the SEDs of host galaxies of various types, and the effects of reddening. We found that host galaxy contamination of the SED is widespread, but quantifiable. Most hosts are better fitted with starburst templates than quiescent spirals or ellipticals. Reddening is quite rare and/or modest in this sample. The E94 template is remarkably good at describing the SED shape from 0.1--1μ m, once host contamination is removed. E94 works especially well for high luminosity, redshift and Eddington ratio. There are some outliers which show extremely weak near-IR emission, these are possibly in different evolution stages compared to normal AGNs.
