The mechanisms regulating the Lyman-alpha (Lya) output of galaxies are still poorly understood. We have an ongoing project to followup a sample of z=0.3 GALEX-selected Lya emitters, to derive their physical properties, using observations in a broad wavelength range. We find that 17% of the z=0.3 GALEX Lya emitters are AGN. We constrain the geometry of the dusty gas by comparing the Lya/Ha and Hb/Ha ratios. We find that the dust is distributed in clumps, and that line photons (both Lya and Balmer lines) mostly escape through clean line of sights.
