I will describe two recent advances in our understanding of the
evolutionary history of elliptical galaxies. These are: (1)
High-redshift early-type galaxies are surprisingly compact. (2) There
appears to be a fairly strong environmental effect which influences the
sizes of elliptical galaxies.
