In type III solar radio bursts, plasma emission is widely accepted to be the main emission mechanism. It involves quasilinear electron beam-Langmuir wave interactions, and nonlinear interactions among Langmuir, ion-sound, and electromagnetic waves. These take place amid ambient density fluctuations superposed on the large-scale density gradient in the solar corona and wind. We overview simulations that take into account these processes amid small-scale density fluctuations and large-scale gradients. Source properties and dynamic spectra are compared with observations and establishment of a stochastic growth state is demonstrated in the presence of fluctuations.
