We present results from Chandra observations (200 ks total) of the strong lensing cluster Abell 1689. The non-detection of the cluster bulk motion and the enhancement of central abundance suggest that the cluster is relaxed, and yet the derived mass profile is inconsistent with most lensing results. Recent work (Lemze et al. 2007) infers a temperature profile 50% higher than the observed one, based on joint X-ray surface brightness and lensing data and the assumption of hydrostatic equilibrium. We examine the possibility that local structures or multiple components in the intracluster plasma bias the X-ray temperature measurement and therefore the mass estimate.
